" Hello,
I wanted to thank you again for your time taking part in the interview. Your insights were very useful to our research and it was extremely valuable to have your perspective as part of the project. It would be amazing if you could complete the attached consent form to indicate your approval for us to use the interview as part of the research. The form is attached. It would be great if you could complete and return this to me in the next few days. Please do also let me know if there is anything I can do that would be of assistance to you and your project. Kind regards, " - Alex Randall (Researcher

“I want to use this medium to express my heart felt appreciation for the job well done. The discussion with the elderly refugee was well detailed. They cooperated well all through the discussion. But this wouldn't have been possible without your organisation's support and coordination. Once again, I appreciate you and looking forward to working with you in the future.” - Dr Mohammed Yusuf Sanusi (Researcher)

“I started working with ARMA the first week of April [2020], I got their information from forgood.co.za. I had called them seeking aid for fellow migrants. That was when Mr Malipo advised me to compile a data base containing the migrants information. I approached Mr Malipo (Chairperson), but he didn’t have funds at moment. So I used my own money and bought food for about 27 families [in need]. Then after two weeks, I got a call from ARMA saying they now have funding [and] they can atleast help a few families. They bought huge humpers of the basics and fed part of people that needed assistance. It actually helped a lot. Working with ARMA was/is an honour [as] they fulfilled what they committed to.” - Kim Nyatsanga | Zimbabwean Community Leader

"I engaged ARMA as part of my research and I am grateful for their willingness to participate and assist in every way possible. I spoke to Mr Malipo and Dr Yusuf who provided great insights into the organization and the work that they do. Their passion for the work they do is evident and the commitment to assist migrants and refugees in need despite the odds is commendable and should be acknowledged.
Thank you very much for your assistance. Continue the good work and may you get the support you need to sustain the organization and the communities that you serve." - Albert Kagande Lecturer Assistant | PhD Candidate Department of Development Studies at Nelson Mandela University

"The experience and knowledge I have gained during my time working at African Refugee and Migrants Aid (ARMA), a non-profit organization that assists asylum seekers and refugees in South Africa.
My name is Sinombulelo Mashologu, when I first joined ARMA, I had little understanding of immigration processes and the reasons why many people seek asylum in South Africa. Through my work with the organization, I gained extensive exposure to the asylum and refugee system, learning how individuals become asylum seekers in a foreign country and the various legal and administrative processes involved.
During my time at ARMA I developed a strong understanding of how immigration works, including the procedures for applying for asylum, renewing permits, and applying for passports, Refugee ID and for permanent residence. I also learned the steps to follow when an asylum and refugee application is rejected and how to support client through the appeal process.
My experience at ARMA has deepened my knowledge of refugee protection, human rights and immigration law, while also improving my communication, case management and client service skills. It has been rewarding experience that allowed me to contribute my knowledge for individuals who come to ARMA seeking for assistance."
- Sinombulelo Mashologu, ARMA Junior Legal Secretary (Intern)
